The Canadian Film and Television Institute (CFTI) was established and founded in the year 2010 in Vancouver, Canada. Following its establishment, on May 1st 2012, CFTI was officially licensed and appointed as a professional film school that may offer valid credentials under the Canadian Government and Government of British Columbia. As of 2014, it is the sole overseas training and enrolment centre of the world-renown Beijing Film Academy – ranked top 3 in a list of the best film universities worldwide as cited by multiple sources such as the Hollywood Reporter – accepting its additional annual applicants each semester. CFTI is currently certified under the Private Training Institutions Branch, and is the only institution in North America to provide bilingual professional industry instruction in both English and Mandarin Chinese. CFTI is also certified with B.C.'s Education Quality Assurance certificate, allowing students to enrol from all across the globe.
CFTI offers a 2-year program in which students can receive a diploma and have the option of transferring their credits to other universities, colleges, and institutions. Completion of 1 year of study at CFTI is directly equivalent to Chinese college credentials, these credentials are the equivalent to the highest credentials received in acting, directing, cinematography, sound recording, art design, production, post production, and animation.
As an institution registered under the Ministry of Education of the Government of Canada, CFTI is licensed to issue valid credentials upon completion of its programs. After completion of the 1 year program, students will be issued a diploma certificate and 1 year work permit by the Government of British Columbia. They will also be offered the option to extend their studies for a total of 2 years – leading to a higher level education diploma and 3 year work permit that will also aid in immigration.
As issued by the Canadian Government, all instructors at CFTI must have a masters or doctorate degree, or a minimum of 15 years experience working in the film industry. Our team of instructors are award-winning talent that have designed a practical and theoretical curriculum for students. CFTI recruits graduates from the world’s top film institutions, including, but not limited to: AFI, NYU, USC, UCLA, BFA, SFU, and UBC, and ensures a flexible, multicultural, and inclusive style of education for each class.
Being one of the few film schools to offer internships, CFTI graduates from the 2-year program are eligible to take part in a 480 hours free internship program on a film or television series production. Additionally, a student may contact a CFTI career consultant, who will then be able to introduce and connect them with career opportunities in China and North America.
With countless Hollywood and Chinese film productions in touch with CFTI, students can be assured that they will always have opportunities available to them.
