Oct 29, 2019 — Shur Kill Targets are the first of their kind, offering angled paper targets with accurately placed “kill zones” on individual wild game species: elk, bear, moose, deer, turkey, etc. The hunting industry has recently seen increased focus on humane hunting -- an issue Shur Kill’s products address directly. A Provisional Patent Application has been filed and recorded with the U.S. Patent &Trademark Office for domestic patent protection.
The owners have spent the past two years honing this concept of “Deer Angle Simulation” paper targets for gun and bow hunters into viable products that are ready to bring to market via online and brick-and-mortar retail channels as well as direct internet sales. The company completed a limited market test on [ external link ] in 2018, selling 35 kits at $19.95 each, 5-star reviews and there were no returns. The kits sell to retailers for $11.97. They are printed by a third-party vendor and the company is home-based.
The Company had an “Innovation Zone Booth” at the Archery Trade Association Trade Show in Louisville, KY in 2019.
The product has been field-tested in 2019 and is now endorsed by Mossy Oak Pro Staff, Karl Badger and others. It has earned a perfect 5-stars score for overall performance and all 10s in every evaluation category. The product is currently being field-tested in 35 states by 105 seasoned deer hunters and all the feedback to date is highly positive. Most recently, Buckmasters, the world premier deer hunting publication, has requested materials from Shur Kill for an upcoming article on the Company’s angle deer hunting kit targets.
The Company’s primary market is to the 9,922,000 U.S. deer hunters, per the National Shooting Sport Foundation. These are hunters who “sight-in” their gun or bow using paper targets, in preparation for deer hunting season. This is a required “tune-up” procedure. To facilitate this process, Shur Kill has created five innovative paper targets that simulate the most-encountered deer angle shots a hunter may make in the field. The state-of-the-art, scientifically accurate targets are unlike any others on the market.
The targets will also be packaged to sell to gun and bow hunting shooting ranges, hunting clubs, gun and archery pro shops, major hunting stores like Cabela’s and Sportsmen’s Warehouse, big-box retailers like Walmart and Tractor Supply, and all 50 state’s hunter education safety programs.
To date, the sellers have spent $185,000 on R&D, design, testing, legal and patent research, inventory for field testing and sales, operations overhead, and initial marketing efforts.
The asking price of $300,000 includes all of the intellectual property developed to date, R&D, field testing, and any current inventory. The seller is willing to stay on post-transaction as a paid consultant for a negotiable amount of time.
