Tips For Responding To Public Shells Wanted Ads

Assess the Credibility of the Buyer

Begin your evaluation by checking the background of the buyer who posted the wanted ad. Look for any identifying information such as their DealStream profile history, previous deals they’ve closed, and any verified credentials. A credible buyer should provide clear details about their requirements, intended use for the public shell, and display professional communication. If the profile is incomplete or lacks a transaction history, proceed with caution and consider requesting references or additional verification.

Analyze the Specificity of the Listing

Pay close attention to how detailed and realistic the wanted ad is. Legitimate buyers will specify the type of public shell they are seeking, including preferred exchange (OTC, NASDAQ, etc.), reporting status, financial requirements, and any deal breakers (such as litigation history or asset conditions). Vague or overly broad listings may indicate a less serious buyer or someone unfamiliar with market norms, which could lead to wasted time or even risk.

Evaluate the Buyer’s Process and Funding Claims

Finally, consider how the buyer describes their acquisition process and funding. Trustworthy buyers are transparent about their timeline, due diligence process, and proof of funds. If a buyer is unwilling to discuss these topics or makes unrealistic claims about cash on hand without documentation, that’s a red flag. Always request a letter of intent (LOI) and proof of funds before moving forward, and be wary of any buyer who resists these standard practices.
